W. Britain Models 54mm Metal 1937 Coronation Set Collection

The first version of Britains State Coach was released in the Historical Series in 1937 (No. 1470) and contained a single figure, representing Edward VIII inside the coach. This had to be replaced at very short notice following Edward's Abdication, the result of his decision to marry Wallis Simpson rather than take the throne. The single figure was hastily replaced by a double-figure, representing King George VI and Queen Elizabeth (later The Queen Mother).
