Battles and Leaders of the Civil War: The Way To Appomattox Vol. 4 (1956) By Johnson, Robert Underwood; Clough, Clarence

Editors of Century magazine began to publish accounts of the battles of that war written by the leaders on both sides. These articles later collected and published. This is volume IV. This contains accounts of men in their own writing such as: Beauregard, Hawley, Grant, Sherman, Breckinridge, Lee, Hood, and Early bringing us: the Wilderness Campaign; Sheridan's Richmond Raid, Cold Harbor, the death of J.E. B. Stuart, Sherman's advance to Atlanta, the final operations in Arkansas and Missouri, Hood's invasion of Tennessee, Early's march to Washington, Sherman's march through the Confederacy, the fall of Richmond, and the surrender of Appomattox Court House. They represent an incomparable view of the period in which the monitors and rams gave new impetus to naval operations and the Confederate cruiser "Alabama" and the Confederate ram "Albemarle" made history. Contains rare drawings, steel engravings, 53 maps and 400 illustrations.
